History
The Center for Urban Youth and Technology (CUYT) was established at the Institute for Urban and Minority in Education (IUME) at Teachers College, Columbia University in 1992. CUYT was designed to consolidate the technology-based programs that IUME created to serve as interventions for youth, parents, teachers, and administrators in urban communities. CUYT is now located at the School of Education, University at Albany (since 1994).
CUYT’s research and service focus on applying knowledge and learning to meet the practical needs of educators, administrators, parents, and students as they relate to the world around us. It is critical to utilize our research to improve and impact education across the Prek-20 spectrum. Our service interventions use Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to stimulate grow, learning, and understanding. We are concerned about: educational policy, the student achievement gap in our testing system, access to technology in the homes, net neutrality issues, broadband access, economic disparities in urban and rural communities and it’s impact on the education of these students, academic and instructional integration of technology in education, workforce and college opportunities for students and adult learners, professional development for teachers and administrators, digital literacy, and
On-line instruction. |
